A Statistical Study of the E. N. T. Patients

Abstract
A clinical and statistical analysis was performed on 3304 cases who were admitted to Dept. of Otolaryngology, Seoul National University Hospital during past 10 years from Jun. 1962 to May 1972. The results were as follows;
1. The admission rate was 7.2% of total new patients and it shows tendency of yearly increment. 2. Among the age groups, the highest incidence was observed in the second decade (27.6%) and
followed by the third decade (24.1%), and been less as the age getting older after fourth decade. The sex incidence was higher in male than female with a ratio of 1.65:1. 3. The incidence by month revealed the highest in Jan. and the lowest in November.
4. The most frequent location was the nose (31.7%) and followed by ears (28.2%), pharynx
(16.8%), and the least was the neck (0.5%).
5. The most frequnt disease was chronic suppurative otitis media (26.4%) and followed by paranasal sinusitis (18.7%), T & A (15.0%), corrosive esophagitis (7.9%), epistaxis (6.2%).
6. The admission rate was 12.5% in chronic otitis media 10.25% in paranasal sinusitis 10. 16% in T & A and it shows the tendency of yearly increment in chronic otitis media while the tendency of yearly decrement in paranasal sinusitis
7. In cases of the corrosive esophagitis, the highest incidence was female in third decade (50%) with suicidal attack and followed by children under 5 years old (19.2%) with accidental causes.
8. Among the seasonal distribution of the epistaxis, the highest incidence was observed in winter and the lowest in summer.
9. The incidence of malignant tumor was 6.3% of total admission patient and it¢¥s frequency was laryngeal cancer (43.5%), maxillary cancer (21.0%), togue cancer (11.0%). =-;
10. The mortality rate was 0.58% (19 cases) and their causes were otogenic meningitis, corrosive esophagitis, laryngeal cancer, carvernous thrombosis, midline granuloma, tracheal stenosis and bronchial foreign body.
